Mission

Saksham is a Microsoft initiative to give impetus to the National Mission of Education through ICT (NMEICT) of MHRD with a common objective to building connectivity and knowledge network among and within institutions of higher learning in the country.
Saksham enables non IT faculty of Higher Education institutes to navigate through new technologies and hone the skills required to be an effective mentor and ICT Champion. The 10 day journey comprises of IT and Soft Skills training sessions which have been designed to be riveting and invigorating - a blend of certain amount of theory, hands on and experiential learning, interspersed with role plays, micro labs, group discussions, motivational team building & leadership enhancing games and activities that will enthuse and keep the teachers engaged as they learn how to integrate technology into education and how to be effective mentors, who will create and maintain the momentum of change in teaching learning in higher education.

Objectives

Microsoft has already conducted the training for 2000 odd faculty across 29 universities spanning different departments and these faculty members have in turn trained another 964 peers. Objective of Saksham to develop ICT Champions on the lines of National Mission of Education through ICT - MHRD.
  • Pro-actively supporting their department, colleague staff within their college for any kind of first level of system failure troubleshooting
  • IT adoption for Teaching and Learning
  • IT adoption of various administrative requirements
  • Creating a digital community
  • Uploading e-content for digital journals and college web site, etc.
Enable the champions to enhance their learning and build certain core skills to help them grow into more responsible, contributing members of the society and would largely enable to take the challenges of pedagogy being faced by the teachers to package more and more for the uptake by the students within the same amount of time available

ICT adoption in Higher Education – Saksham (An attempt towards ICT enablement by Microsoft)

Microsoft is working to create ICT Champions and bring about a paradigm shift in IT adoption for teaching and learning in the Higher Education space in the country since May 2011 and has covered 29 Universities so far. This 10 days training program has been cited as unique by one and all, including Ministry of HRD officials for its right blend of IT and softskills content and delivery. The faculty trained during the program further trains up other faculty members of the University. Over 2000 teachers have been trained under this program. Training Programme

Training Requirements

Nomination of 25-30 faculty members from the affiliated Colleges of the University with a non IT background for the program.

Administrative Requirements:
  • Nomination of a nodal officer/faculty as one point contact for all the support that would be required from the University for smooth execution of the training program.
  • Nomination of 25-30 faculty members from the affiliated Colleges of the University with a non IT background for the program.
  • Ensure that faculty attend the entire 10 days training program
  • Training lab (as per the specifications given below) with a seating capacity of 25-30 in one of the host colleges
  • Extend logistics/administrative support to the trainer and trainees. Your esteemed University will arrange for the accommodation (Boarding & Lodging) of the 2 Microsoft Trainers at the University Guest House during the training duration. Our MS Staff from the Delhi office will visit for 1 night during the training and would like to avail of the University Guest House services .
A consent letter indicating the following will enable us to proceed ahead
  • The University is fine to have the training conducted please provide tentative dates)
  • It will ensure the requisite infrastructure for training, is provided (computer lab, projector, internet connectivity, etc.)
  • It will host lunch and tea for the participants during the training tenure.
  • A list of the nominated participants would be sent 2 weeks in advance so that the Microsoft team can interact with the faculty and fine tune the training
  • Post training completion, reference to this training in collaboration with Microsoft as well as Saksham (www.saksham-ms.in) would be provided on the University Web site

Programme Efficacy

Saksham programme is unique in that each trainee will have to submit a 6/6/6 Action Plan at the end of the training. This plan will detail each educator’s plan – how he/she plans to utilize the skills learnt or refreshed, after the training. A dedicated team will rigorously follow up and assist the educators to help implement their mentorship plans. This will enhance the TRICKLE DOWN BENEFITS of the programme.

Hall of Fame

Muhundan is a dynamic young educator and is delighted to be running his own mentoring program which gives him a chance to spread IT knowledge. In his initial batch, he had enrolled 26 people and has completed training participants on MS Office. He then trained another set of students on various multimedia technologies. Till date he has trained 50 people on Microsoft Office 2010, Cloud Computing, SkyDrive and Office 365. He has also taken few sessions on soft skills. He is impressed by the accessibility features available in Windows 7 and Office 2010.

Roadblocks

Muhundan faced the following challenges –
  • Poor net connectivity on-campus
  • Lack of latest software versions and updates in the college lab
  • Students need training on latest versions but have to make do what is available
  • Finding common free time for training

Technical Requirements

This webinar will be conducted using Microsoft Lync Server. The Web Link to access each of the webinar is given above. Lync Web App is a free web based version of the Lync client. It enables anyone who is not licensed for the full Lync client to enjoy the full experience of a Lync meeting, including sending and receiving voice/video, viewing and presenting shared content, and screen sharing.
